An artists’ creative practice is often punctuated by cycles of production and apprenticeship where the language being developed is both articulated and refined. Owen Wandering thus proposes a synthesis of the themes and concepts that he has developed during his academic studies which have now come to an end.
Eight double-sided plywood panels, arranged two by two, have been disposed in order to form a vast square in the gallery space that creates two distinct and complementary visual experiences, where painting and sculpture, history and the present, are made to interact.
In this new installation project, the spectator is invited to journey through a network where matter and space are confronted with a variety of subtle references that have been sampled from the history of art and architecture and then juxtaposed to visual elements borrowed from the worlds of publicity and the graphic arts. The resulting pieces lie on the boundary between two and three dimensional works, where the painted image can either correspond to or negate the sculpted interventions. Consequently, the final images are a hybrid of what was either being compared or contrasted.
The artist is also integrating new media to his installation practice by collaborating with the artists Carol-Ann Belzil Normand and Katia Truong. The result of this symbiosis builds an architectural environment that multiplies the differing layers of meaning.

METOPE propose un cube expérientiel au sein de la salle d’exposition.
Huit panneaux recto-verso en contreplaqué sont installés afin de produire une mise en abyme du concept architectural tout en laissant une place à l’importance des nouveaux médias qui viennent questionner les fondements même de cette hiérarchie. Peinture et sculpture s’allient et s’opposent pour construire un endroit où la dualité des médiums devient superflue.
Lors de la Nuit de la création 2012, deux panneaux – Aube / Aurore – seront récontextualisés à l’intérieur du Pavillon Gérard Morisset du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec afin de s’inscrire dans la thématique de la soirée: NOCTURNE.
Née à Rivière-du-Loup, Carol-Ann Belzil Normand termina son Baccalauréat en arts visuels de Laval en 2010 et elle y poursuit présentement un baccalauréat en art et science de l’animation. Ses œuvres ont été sélectionnées pour le festival Vidéastes Recherché.es à deux reprises, dont tout récemment en 2012.
Originaire de l’Outaouais, Katia Truong entama le baccalauréat en art et science de l’animation à L’Université Laval en 2010. Elle a tout récemment été admise au programme d’animation au Emily Carr University of Art and Design de Vancouver.
